CBD & Hemp

What does CBD stand for?
CBD stands for Cannabidiol. This is the second most abundant cannabinoid found in Hemp among other plants.
What are cannabinoids?
Cannabinoids are active compounds found in Marijuana and Hemp. They are responsible for the various effects provided.
Does CBD get you high like THC?
CBD is a non-psychoactive Cannabinoid. As long as your CBD product has no THC in it, you will feel no classical high with these products.
Can I fail a drug test if I only use CBD?
In theory it is possible. However, the drug screen for THC-COOH is known to have very little impact on the other non-psychoactive cannabinoids such as CBD. The only real situation where having a compromised drug test is a true potential is either having THC in the product or an extremely high daily dosage of non-psychoactive cannabinoids. An extreme dosage would be considered to be approximately 1000-2000 mg daily. The high dosages have potential for hot samples because of the sheer amount non-psychoactive metabolites or compounds.
Can I legally obtain this where I live, if so, how?
YES! Since CBD is non-psychoactive so it does not fall under the same regulations that Marijuana does. Currently CBD can legally be purchased and shipped without the concerns of legal intervention.
What is the endocannabinoid system?
The endocannabinoid system (ECS) is a group of endogenous cannabinoid receptors located in the mammalian brain and throughout the central and peripheral nervous systems, consisting of neuro-modulatory lipids and their receptors. This system was discovered in the 1990’s and is responsible for various physiological processes such as appetite, pain sensation, mood and memory.
What are phyto-cannabinoids and how are they uptaken by the body?
Phytocannabinoids are cannabinoids that occur naturally in the cannabis plant. The classical cannabinoids are formed through decarboxylation of their respective 2-carboxylic acids (2-COOH), a process which is started off by heat, light or alkaline conditions. Specific cannabinoids stimulate the receptors in the Endo-Cannabinoid system and then are distributed throughout the body.
Can I overdose on CBD? What is an appropriate dosage?
There are no documented cases of Cannabinoids leading to an overdose. CBD is completely non-toxic even at extreme dosages. It is general consensus that there have been no deaths related to Cannabis or Hemp consumption.
Are there side effects that I should be aware of when using CBD?
According to a review done by Elixinol, a manufacturer of CBD oil, CBD oil is well tolerated in mammal bodies even under extreme dosages. This study does touch on the emerging evidence that CBD can inhibit hepatic drug metabolism and decreased activity of the p-gylcoprotein.
Will CBD interact with other medications that I use?
Studies show that CBD can impact the P-450 enzyme system. The P-450 enzyme system aids the body in metabolizing medications. This metabolizing can be impacted by the presence of CBD. Some medications can be metabolized faster or slower than they would be on their own. More research is being conducted to better understand the impact of CBD and this particular question.
What is the difference between full spectrum and isolated CBD? Which is better?
Full spectrum CBD refers to an extract that has all other cannabinoids in this particular extract. Isolated CBD is exactly that, CBD molecules that are completely separated from the other cannabinoids. This leaves you with a CBD only extract. A study performed at the Lautenberg Center for Tumor Immunology in Israel indicates that Isolated CBD “yields a bell-curve of efficacy while full spectrum products continued efficacy at higher dosages. All tests conducted in the study showed that Isolated CBD is only effective at certain dosages.
What is the most efficient means of ingesting CBD?
In a study conducted by Hollister Et Al, the most optimal means of ingestion when considering bio-availability is to inhale or apply sublingually. However, there isn’t a universal remedy where one form of the finished product is more effective than the other. The circumstances of the user often guide providers to specific applications for specific ailments.
Is there an optimal ratio of THC to CBD?
There is a concept coined the “entourage effect.” This states that Cannabinoids are more effective when used in conjunction with one another. Since THC and CBD are the most abundant cannabinoids, many people search out ratios of these specific cannabinoids to fit their specific needs. A study conducted by GW Pharmaceuticals concluded that a 1:1 ratio of CBD to THC was most effective regarding therapeutic relief across the studied categories. However, certain situations require different ratios.
What are some good sources to gather information on CBD?
A few trusted sources that we have relied on in the past to provide information on CBD in general, law, specific products are as follow: CBDoilreview.com, projectcbd.org, norml.org, google scholar, leafly, and the cannabist.
Who are some of the lead organizations that are leading research about health and CBD?
Israel is the epicenter of the modern understanding of CBD. Israel’s place in the CBD science world was started by Dr. Raphael Mechoulam. He is an Israeli scientist that began research using confiscated Lebanese hash in the 1960’s. He was one of the first scientists to discover CBD. He later established a medical cannabis program through the Ministry of Health which has led to formal cannabis program that currently treats over 25,000 patients in the nation.
Should I be concerned about foreign sources of CBD?
Concern is not the word I would use when talking about CBD that is produced abroad. Caution would be more appropriate. Just like any product that you would consume, it is best to understand how it is grown, processed and handled. Some foreign sources of CBD may not undergo the same scrutiny or regulations. We recommend that people take the personal responsibility to understand where the CBD in their products originate.
How are the oils extracted from the plant? How would CBD and THC be separated if THC was found in CBD products?
CBD oils can be extracted away from the plant using various methods. Since CBD is therapeutic in nature, many of the extraction methods used avoid hydrocarbons that are commonly used in the THC world. More often than not is extracted via ethanol or even more commonly CO2. In situations where the source plant may have a “hot” level of THC, distillation can be used to completely isolate the CBD from any other substances that aren’t desirable.
Do I need an MMJ card or prescription in Colorado in order to purchase CBD?
In the state of Colorado you can obtain CBD products with no traceable THC without the need for a state issued license. CBD can be shipped legally across state lines without any special documentation or legal concerns.
Is CBD safe for my child? What about my pets?
CBD is absolutely safe for child consumption. All mammals have an endo-cannabinoid system. Most of the emergence of CBD into the American theatre has been created from the stories of young children who came to Colorado to gain access to these molecules. The most known example is Charlotte Figi, who had her epileptic seizures reduced greatly through the administration of CBD oil.
